Matt Brunson

Matt Brunson is an award-winning film critic with over 30 years of professional experience. Based in Charlotte, NC, his work can be found on his website Film Frenzy. From 1988 through 2018, he was the sole movie reviewer for Charlotte's alternative newsweekly Creative Loafing. In addition to penning film-related content for CL, he also wore other hats at the publication over the years, including stints as Senior Editor, Arts & Entertainment Editor, and Interim Editor-in-Chief. His work has regularly appeared in various other publications, including Connect Savannah in Savannah, Ga., and he's been interviewed about film for USA Today, NPR, and CBS. He’s the recipient of approximately a dozen awards from both the North Carolina Press Association and the North Carolina Working Press, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the 15 Short Film Festival.

Matt is also a longtime member of the Southeastern Film Critics Association (SEFCA) and previously served as the organization’s President (2008-2010) and Vice President (2004-2008).
